Eave Vents-Needed in Mild Climate?
My framer is telling me that eave vents aren’t required and that the dormer vents on the roof deck would provide enough cross-ventilation to keep the attic space ventilated and cooler. One of his concernes was having to hold back the insulation from the eaves and thus losing the effect of a fully insulated envelope.
I thought that the most efficient way of venting an attic is with the addition of eave vents. We’re in a very mild climate (Southern California) so there’s no freezing to be concerned with, just movement of hot air on a few summer days.
The eave vents aren’t even required by the building department as long as there is an addequate amount of venting through the dormer vents.
Any comments?
Thanks!
