I have to build some cabinets out of MDF and my client wants them to be black,but not painted.I tried a minwax stain but it turned out brown(Black stain).Any ideas?gel?dye?Also it has to be hand applied as I have no spray gear.Thanks Dan

*If I was you, I would sub it out or rent the spray gear. I've had the best success with high end industrial finishes; black primer (prepared by the company, don't try and tint white primer as you have to add so much tint the finish will be soft), followed by their black topcoat, or several coats of clear laquer buffed out. Even with the spray gear, this is one of the most demanding finishes to do, and the surface prep has to be perfect (prime and fill, prime and fill). I just don't think you will have any luck staining by hand. Good luck.
