Anybody own one? Or have any of you worked on one?
There is one for auction in a couple of weeks and if it was a wood frame house I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it.
But this son of a gun is all poured concrete- floors, bearing walls, exterior walls. I have an image in my head of a long drawnout day at the root canal factory when I think about a new bright and expansive kitchen and charming well designed bath.
On the upside the trim and doors are quite nice and the exterior just needs painted and landscaped.
Maybe I can google up a set of plans…

i would love one, concrete roof too
I will sell you this one. It could be your cottage in the woods- except it is in town and the big tree in the yard blew over and it is kinda big to be a cottage. No Tag
The History Detectives TV show on PBS had a feature on Edison homes last year, it was pretty interesting. http://www.pbs.org/opb/historydetectives/investigations/201_edison.html I thought only a handful of them were built, mainly all in one little neighborhood in New Jersey. There's a bunch of information on them online, here's an article from American Heritage magazine. http://www.americanheritage.com/articles/magazine/it/1996/3/1996_3_50.shtml

Even more strange is the mention of Edison's concrete piano and phonogragh cabinets. Hate to have to move that piano.

there are about ten of these places on two streets. must have been built by somebody not Thomas Alva- to save the middle class from the slums of central Ohio.
