Effectiveness of mulching mower blade
It’s not really a construction tool but…
I’ve had the same mulching blade on my mower for about 2 years now. I’ve been sharpening it about 2-3 times a season on my bench grinder. Not much taken off each time, just enough to bring back a sharp edge.
I was wondering if the mulching capability of the blade and mower becomes more effective the lighter the blade becomes or not.
I was thinking while a “heavier” blade might take more time and power to come up to speed, the momentum of the heavier blade would require less power to keep it spinning at that speed. Would this translate into better mulching performance?
Or is the weight of the blade not related to mulching performance at all?

The only place that I see where the weight of the blade (with in reason) would come into play was if you where attacking grossly overgrown grass where you push the mower in a foot and then pull it back as the motor bogs down.
But that AIN'T MULCHING.
A heavier blade has more momentum, so it is less likely to stall when hitting a patch of tall grass or whatever. Does not directly effect mulching action.
