I am adding new light to bathroom.
switch box has 2 wires to single pole switch. end of run for single light in bathroom.
i want to add light over vanity and it is impossible to cut into anywhere except around switch.
is it possible to wire from switchbox and have both lights run from single switch.
thanks

No. There is no power (specifically, no neutral wire) available at the box; the 2 wires simply close the light circuit. Any additional light would be in series with the existing bulb, not parallel as you want.
You will need to fish an additional power cable to the box location. Or fish a wire to wherever is convenient -- the vanity light switch doesn't have to be in the same location, and you could get a vanity light setup with the switch on the fixture. If you were already prepared to run a cable to the vanity, this should not be too difficult. It would be a good idea to get a larger box to accomodate the wires.
*Yes. Direct answer is NO.But... If you have a live feed in the light box AND the wire between the switch and the light is loose (big if) or can be pulled loose, you can use it to pull through a piece of 12/3 to replace the 12/2 (or 14). This way you can bring the LINE and NEUTRAL to the switch (on BLK and WHT, for example) THen the one switch switched the black to the red back to the old light. A second switch switches from the blk to the new wire to the second light.THis rarely works, since all it takes is a few staples which won't pop or a tight bend.LOLAdam

Tom..I agree with andrew D. with the information given you cannot do this job. Where is the existing light with respect to the switch and is it in the ceiling? Is the vanily light going to be on the wall? Do you have a crawl space (attic)? If not which way do the floor joists run with respect to the switching and the existing light and the new light? If your willing to patch a few holes (without destroying your bathroom) It can be done. Tom Meg
