Hi Folks.
I replaced the brushes in my Makita LS1013 SCMS, as per suggestions, but there was no change. Still no brake. Any other suggestions?
I see on the wiring diagram an item called a ‘controller’ between the switch and motor. Is this what is responsible for the braking action?
Thanks,
Scott.

it is just guess on my part Scott,
but the controller acts as reversing switch when you release the trigger.....pretty much like reversing a drill motor !
it sounds like yours has gone bad or possibly a wire has broken contact, it may be a part you can replace, if there is a # for it.
I think it is a bad part though, as a broken wire would probably keep the saw from working at all
The only problem you might encounter, ... the switch terminals may have been soldered, which is unlikely.. since soldered connections are much better than all other types, and therefore not used by manufacturers that want you to keep buying tools......

I looked for a schematic of your saw but came up empty.......
Thanks guys.<!----><!----><!---->

Agreed. Besides, this has been a gradually declining illness, not the sudden impact of a wire coming loose. The brake still kicks in at the very last moment on occasion.<!----><!---->
The controller is a separate part, and is orderable. It's almost a hundred bucks though, so I'd like to be sure that it's the problem before buying it.<!----><!---->

Scott.
perhaps Makita service will be helpful enough to tell you if that is the fix.....if that is all that is in the circuit, between the switch and the motor, I would be inclined to think it will be the remedy..since they have it listed as a part !Unless Makita does something squirrely inside the switch"
Scott,
My Hitachi has a magnet on the end of the motor arbor,could be yours is similiar.
