No, not an el-cheapo Big Box POS.
I mean a REAL splitter, probably 240V with approx. 2hp motor and a stout steel frame. A two speed ram would be nice for quick retraction, so would horizontal/vertical adjustment.
Anyone got one, made one, or have a comment on one? I process six to seven cords a year.
The reasons I’m considering electric:
– I have power nearby and can do wiring.
– It will be stationary.
– Quiet.
– I’ve already got too many internal combustion engines to maintain.
Thx.

You're not quite on the right track. You don't want a 'electric' splitter, you want a hydraulic one. The hydraulic splitter will just happen to have an electric pump motor.
One advantage to hydraulics is that it's a lot easier to control the speed and power of the ram. Less obvious, but more important, is that the regulation of the hydraulics will prevent the motor from having to deal with sudden changes in loading.

Yeah, yeah, yeah... details. ;-)
That's why I said "two speed ram for quick retraction".
It's just that 99% of the large splitters out there seem to be gas powered, and the electric ones are all so wimpy. I'd like a large electric powered one. Perhaps I can find an old gas one and swap out the motor.
Besides, there aren't many people with 240 receps outside... so none of my neighbors will want to borrow it! HA!
Pretty sure I've seen the parts, sans motor, at Northern Tool or some such.
Is 20 ton heavy duty enough?

Perfect, thanks. That's exactly what I'm looking for.
