What do you usually pay/charge for electric rough-in in your area? I was recently quoted $3 per sq. ft. on a pretty straight forward residential job, which seems high to me. This is my first project since relocating to North Carolina, so maybe I’m just used to tighter estimates. How does this compare to your area/experience.

The guy we use recently went up to I think $1.15 per FT. He had been charging $1.00 for about the last fifteen years . That includes receps , plugs , and trim plates . No light fixtures . I dont no how he does it . All I know is he plays golf two or three times a week while I'm working . Chuck

*My guy charges $1.60 per sq. ft. plus $15 for each TV and phone jack plus $30 for each recessed light and bathroom vent fan/light and $20 for each ceiling fan plus $150.00 for the permit. Pretty standard rates here in western Montana.
*Here in Raleigh NC it's $1.60 - $2.00 a square foot for rough in and finish. This includes wire, boxes and all installs but does not includ things like phone, CATV. You also have to buy your own surface mount fixtures, exhaust fans, appliances, etc. Can lights (recessed) are extra too. That's for new construction. Remodels, additions, or small jobs are probably more.
*Joe , dont tell me you play golf while I'm working to or is it too ? [also] . Chuck
*I find it interesting that you blokes are being charged on an area rate. Here we are charged per point. ( around $30 per point whether it's a light or power ) This includes all the wiring , point and light. Install of the main board is around $200 on top of that.

My electrician charges $ 25.00 per outlet or box
for new work, ie. basement finishing. The cost
jumps to $ 30.00 per if it is existing , (fishing
takes two).
The work at the panel is included under most
cases. Those are Canadian funds folks!
