Hi all,
Is any one familiar with the twistless connectors from either Ideal or GB? I think one of the names is in-sure or something like that.
They are a clear plastic push in type connector for terminating up to 12 ga. solid or stranded wire. They have different numbers of ports from 2 to 8 I think. The wire is held inside the peice by a spring steel clip, and seems fairly strong. The literature says it is ideal for lighting and general purpose circuits.
I haven’t used them before and was contemplating using them when running a new 20 amp circuit in my garage. I don’t want to sacrifice quality but I am always interested in trying something that saves time and energy.
Seems like they would take up less room when pigtailing wiring in a box because it lays flat and the wire is not twisted. Previously I had always twisted and used a wire nut.
I was curious to hear others opinnions and some applications that these connectors had been used in.
Any pros, cons and advice would be appreciated.

I used them in a box that was overcrowded and liked them, but, you will find that no electrician would trust them and new outlets and switches will only take up to 14 ga. There must be a reason huh? . If you have room stick with the twistys.

Sounds like a back stabbed receptacle that no one should use.
You get out of life what you put into it......minus taxes.

Boy timing is every thing...
I went looking for a extra large wire nut to handle Qty (8) 12 gauge conductors...no wire nut twisties, only the push in type you described. Boy was I happy to see that they made something like that. Haven't used it yet, but is sure looks like it will do the job.
I would also like to hear other comments on the product.
you want my take on those things.?
I will only use those for lighting, especifically fluorescent lighting where there are a lot of ballasts and the load is always the same....in other words,...... no receptacles or motors

For eight conductors, you must be dealing with the green wires. In such a situation, I would use a ground bar. This really helped recently when I had a 12" sq. box with 39 circuits coming in and going out.
As for the WEGO type connectors, these would be very neat -- if they pass the test of time. They are faster and take up less room. In some situations -- repair work and too short conductors -- they are the solution. [Remember: 6" of free conductor is required.]
