Info needed on uping 100 amp electricial panel to 200 amp,house is built about 1955, concrete block on slab,flat roof,1000sf. Meter is 200 amp outside of carport with 15 feet running to the breaker box in the kitchen.Electrican wants to create new 100 amp panel at… meter… on the carport wall,subpanel?instead of new 200 amp breaker box in kitchen.Is this a good idea or??,pros and cons. Thanks for any help.

I've seen it done.
New panel located in one location & the old panel would be used as a junction box.

I would agree - make the new 200A panel in a new position; sub out 100 Amp to the old box (if it's relatively modern) powering most if not all of the original circuits - saves lots of rewiring.
