engineerd wood floor over existing floor herringbone pattern
A brief history. The existing floor is 50 year old 3/4 inch T+G oak which is laid down as a basketweave pattern. The floor looks as if it were glued to a concrete floor. This is an apartment on the fifth floor. A wall air conditioner leaked, resulting in the wood geeting warped in about a 100 suare foot area. The entire apt is about 600 sq ft. The current floor is not available to be repaired. My thoughts are to remove the damaged floor, and then place a 1/4 inch subfloor above the entire floor. Next I would place an engineered wood floor over this. My thought was that I would save time and money in that I do not have to remove the old floor and then put a new subfloor in the entire apt. Ideally I would like to have a 3/4 inch solid wood floor, but I have seen some nice engineered wood floors. Lauzon has been one that is recommended. Does anyone have any experience with this? What do you think about putting the floor down in a herringbone pattern? They make an engineered floor that each piece is 13 inches. T+G. I could put a 3/4 inch floor over the existing floor, but then the floor is raised up so high that the entry door will not open. Otherwise I would (and I still might) go with that option. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.
