I would like to install some 1/2″ engineered hardwood flooring over the vinyl floor in my kitchen. The sub floor is 3/4 plywood. I realize I could float the floor, but feel like I should staple since I am able to. A stapled floor just seems inherently more sound. I don’t want to walk on a floor that bounces or “gives” underneath because it’s not fastened. I’d like some opinions on whether I should float or staple the floor. Also, do I need to remove the vinyl (a chore I would like to avoid) or can I just install over it. Thanks in advance.
