Hello Everyone, as some of you know i have just completed a remodel of our living room, replacing the carpet with hardwood and tiling a hearth and putting up a stone FP. My precious 5 yr old did what i knew would happen, scratched the floor 🙁 its not deep but it is white and appears to be just the finish layer. is there a way to repair/hide/minimize this scratch?? the floor is Br111 Tigerwood Engineered floating flooring. I hope all of you are enjoying the holidays. thanks in advance for your help.

Have you contacted the manufacturer to see what they recommend? It's probably worth a shot. I would bet that you aren't the first person with a similar problem. - lol
i did check out their website and they say that they have some "kit" to hide the scratch... just wondering what the experts here would do. thanks for your replyFrankWe were the winners, cause we didnt know we could fail....

You have just experienced the weak link in engineered flooring -- the surface is pretty thin. I'd go for the kit. It's probably a stain stick matching the color of the floor & will be a lot easier to get a good match that way than trying to mix your own colors. It probably also includes some sort of topcoat. You'll still be able to see the scratch, 'cause you know it's there, but no one else will likely notice it.
Of course, the other option is to replace the damaged piece by disassembling the floor enough to get to it, but there are two laws of nature that are working against you:
1) The damaged piece, if not in the exact center of the room, is pretty close to it, requiring the removal of the most amount of flooring possible to get to it.
2) As soon as you relay the floor, Precious will ding it again.

i will probably get the kit, though i see they make " crayons" for that too, there are two main colors. a sort of orange and then black, unforturnalty the scratch is about 2 feet long :( :( :( exactly in the center of the room no less... so will probably try that. thanks for the help.

Can you say "area rug"???
that was a thought... but the floor looks so nice i hate to cover it up :( it was partially my fault i left something in the kitchen i shouldnt have... and well you know... before you can say dont touch that... he had it out on the floor...

Yes, I do understand...if that's the worst thing that ever happens, think how lucky you are!
I frequently say tis to myself to keep things in proportion. Good luck with your repair, & Happy Holidays - all of them!
funny thing is upstairs i laid some 3/4oak in the bonus room where he keeps most of his stuff.. and i dont see any scratches there needs to be shined up a little but seems to hold up pretty well. it was pre finished as well...
