I found a company who does this type of work at a Home & Garden Show. They inspected my fiberglass shower and tub combo this morning with a price of $680.00
The breakdown is: Refinish – $650.00; Non-skid bottom – $50.00; drain repair – $30.00 (I do have a knick (sp) near the drain; home show discount – $50.00. Total: $680.00. They use Sherman Williams paint. ??
The name of the company is Amazing Glaze, I checked the web last night and it seems it’s a chain company, not a stand-alone one.
Of course, they wanted a decision immediately. I told them I had a friend (you) who I wanted to consult. Of course, I was told this is a “good” price. Is it?
Thanks for your comments.

Very comparable to any price I've seen.
$350 for a tub.... double it for an enclosure.
Won't last forever. 5yr typical warantee. 10 year lifespan. Will the Co. your dealing with be in business that long??
It's not perfect, just a stop gap approach IMO.
Unless you are changing the color you should be looking for a company to re-polish the surface.
I had a damaged tub installed and the supply company sent a guy out to "repair" the tub. He did great! Some kind of two part patching and a good polishing and you can not find where the problem was.
Call a plumbing supply house to get a good name to use.
Boats and USA, I knew I forgot to say I was changing the color of the enclosure. I have a new white toilet, due to a crack in the old beige tank. Didn't realize the huge difference in the colors until it was installed.
Thank you, I appreciate your advice.
I thank all of you for the pros and cons. Yes, the color needs to be changed - it's an early 80's beige. It doesn't match the rest of the bathroom as I'm replacing things in the house every year bringing things up-to-date. We are not the original owners
In our former house we had an iron tub refinished. I was not happy as it had tiny "pimples" in the finish. Our good friend and neighbor recommended the refinisher.
If there is a problem, after they complete the work - I'll have to live with it for a few years as I am the only one who uses the tub/shower combo.
As to the agree now; this is the standard from all repair people in this area. I refuse to let them intimidate me, this is why I came to you.
Yes, I'm going with them on the price. I'll let you know how everything goes.
I rely on your honesty.
Thank you.
Of course, they wanted a decision immediately.
That would concern me, sounds like they're desparate. Any good, solid company would not be pushing for a quick decission when giving an estimate, except maybe the fire department. I'd shop around some more.

$700 would take you pretty close to a new unit. I've only seen refinished cast iron tubs and they look good when first done. After 2 years, not so much..........

I know a guy that does this type of repair. It is about all he does. He claims it is good for 7-10 years if cared for. The price is in line with what he quoted me for a client I had looking for something similar. They wanted a quick close because at $680 a sale you can't afford to come back to often. DanT
Std. tub here in Metro area of NYC is $400. Looks brand new and comes with a lifetime warranty, installer is independent and fairly young soooo.
We had three units done in the past month. Your price is right about what the refinishers around this area charge.
Don't expect the new finish to be as tough as the original. It is actually a colored glaze that they apply. There's quite a bit of work involved. It all has to be cleaned and sanded, then etched & primed, and then glazed.
The cost advantage or course, is that you don't have to remove and replace an ugly colored, but perfectly good shower or tub unit. Small repairs can be handled at the time of reglazing.
As someone else said, if you just need to repair a spot and don't need to recolor, that is about $100 or so depending on the damage.
That's about right for the West Coast.
i wouldn't expect perfection, either. The last company I used had to do it twice and had overspray on everything. They attemped to polish it out and it was so-so.
personall, I'd stick with someone like Miracle Method, but they are all franchises.
I should have yanked the tub and tile surround. Too late at that point.
