Does anyone have any opinions on which estimating books are worth buying?
I am in the southwestern PA area. I noticed at least one book is distributed by region with the costs changing per region.
Thanks

Every book has it's benefits. And all are just guidelines. What would you use the book for ... buying or selling? Some present numbers as assemblies (sf of finished wall, or sf of finished roof) and some break it down into many many parts. The problem with the detailed breakdown is that you can overlook an item. The advantage is that you can make adjustments to unit pricing.
Get one that comes with a cd, and even better a cd wherein you can make adjustments to the unit prices of material and the oh&p markups.

I've used hometech for years with good results. I copy the formulas into an Excel spreadsheet and update them as I get job cost data form past jobs out of Quickbooks. The prices seem high but they will generally work well to get the job and keep you from losing money.
