Does anyone have a quick way to estimate the amount of clapboards needed to be bought to cover a given square footage? I know it depends on exposure (4inch in my case) and possibly on size of clapboard (5-1/2). I could probably work through this and eventually come up with something, but does anyone have a trick/chart/fast way to do this?
Thanks,
Scott

Well... I'm tired and if this sounds stupid, I'm sorry..
I've done a few tons of siding and to me it sounds like if you have a 4" exposure, then 3 courses of siding would cover 1' vertically. In other words, to cover a square foot, you'd need 3 feet of siding.
Sounds right to me... but then again it has been a long day.
For cost estimates, I use 3 lf/sq ft of wall, minus openings, plus 20% for waste. This has worked pretty well for estimating. Actually buying the right assortment of lengths (if you're using clear cedar) to minimize butt joints and waste is an entirely different matter.

You'd be absolutely right. With the cedar we get around here, it may be safer to figure 25%.
I told y'all I was tired :)
Been Monday all week....
The older I get, the better I was....
