Hello All,
I tried this post over at Knots and haven’t gotten a single post. Apparently no one over there will stoop to explaining the intricacies of the European cabinet making system. Here’s my problem. My existing kitchen cabinets are the cheapest euro-style cabinets you can buy (plain white, came with the house), and I am adding on to the kitchen. A completely new kitchen is not in the budget (I’ll be modifying the doors to add some style and adding a crown and light moulding to finish).
What I need to know is what is the spacing in from the front of the cabinet to the holes (32mm on centre). I’m making a jig to drill the holes (2″ aluminum angle) and need know the distance. So far, I have checked the existing cabinets and they are set 35mm from the front of the cabinet edge (5/8 thick melamine)…some of the stuff I’ve read indicates 37mm is correct. So is there a difference due to the thickness of the material (5/8 instead of 3/4…I’m planning on using 3/4 by the way) or is it due to the hardware? Should I start with the hardware and build to suit, or is there a standard method.
Regards,
CC

Thanks...that looks like a start.

37mm is standard, doesn't matter what thickness the panels are. You will however have to know your panel thicknesses for much of your hardware.
