New to the site and received in the mail a letter from a place called Building Trades Association. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of them, are they any good/worth the investment, on the up and up? I am looking to start out on my own and I need to get licensed and insured. They seem alright but I wanted to see if you all have any input. I live in Ma. and any additional help for getting started would be apprciated. Thanks in advance.

Isnt that the company that offers to list you in a book that i've never in my life seen before for the low low price of like $90?
I took a pass on that one. However the envelope always makes me think i'm in some kind of trouble when I see it in the mail pile. It seems so official at first.
That was great! You're right, I've never seen that book either yet I get that letter all the time. I think only the folks that sign up get copies of it.
To the original poster, I'd skip on memberships like these and concentrate on local advertising like local builders' associations, chambers of commerce, newspapers, etc.
Just my .02 cents of course.

You just nailed it. When I first started my business I joined for a year. Hey... it looked official. After one year of truly not seeing a single benefit other than the $90 tax write-off, I ran it by the board and they decided it was a poor investment. ;)
But they sure are pesky, aren't they? I swear I get about an envelope a week from them.View Image
I think they mail me the "come join us" every 3 months. Every 3 months it ends up in the trash. I think you will get 99 reasons why it's a waste of $$$
Good thing for all the honest people who we can count on here. All Things Wood!
