I’ve often wonder if my personal experiences were an anomaly. Anyone got any pictures they care to post of bad tile jobs in new construction scenarios, whether that be renovation or new home construction?
Heck, while I’m at it how about some poor drywalling, too?

I read his reply to the floor supplier thread and thought the exact same thing. Now this one. Guess some folks are just certain the glass is half empty and going to stay that way. DanT

Yup. And it usually does with that kind of thinking. But at least it gives them some new material to b1tch about.View Image
I didn't have a complaint in mind. Please do not cast me by what little you have seen of me. I cannot be the only one that has seen bad examples of construction--you all would have to be blind to serve that idea up. I was just wondering if anyone had funny pictured of bad or wrong ways of doing construction. I figured someone in the business probably has a much more often instance of seeing something along these lines than a run of the mill homeowner not in the business.
I'll admit that yesterday morning I woke up with a Hank Evans attitude, though, and my cynical sense of humor was getting the best of me.
Nuke, I'm going to have to agree with that right wing Republican this time. Start looking on the sunny side of the street. Much nicer over there.

You're absolutely right, a man has to take a position. I have no argument with that. And from my reading, I think Nuke is a man of your own persuasion politically. So, coming from a leftist, I thought I'd qualify my statement.
The guy works nites I think if I remember correctly. He'll be back to check I'm sure.

I'm gonna turn a negative thread positive ...
just today ... walked thru the door ... ok ... maybe crawled ...
just beat.
But .... a good kinda beat.
tore out an old tile shower ... and an old tile floor ... and an old cast iron tub.
"we" thot ... tile over greenboard ... floor's over ply ...
the tub was gonna be the bitch.
it was a sunken deal ... hung over a very nice and expensive ... and fairly new tile floor in the basement below ... popped the drop ceiling to get a look ... and it really was just hanging there ... no "floor" to speak up ...
after carefully trippling up the protection on the floor below ... we had to creatively beat the snot outta the tub to break it up ... while keeping it from falling below.
That turned out to be the easy part ... all that other tile ...
full mud jobs ... everywhere!
anyways ... at 3:30pm ... the world was a wonderful place to be.
as all the tile was up and in the van ... all the crap was mostly swept up ...
that tub was in two pieces in the van ...
and there were no cracks in that floor and everyone involved still had 10 fingers and functioning backs ...
it was tough ... but a great freaking day!
If ya can't have fun with the hard dirty stuff ya better stay home ...

I hate mud jobs, but they are good for venting some frustration.
How many stairs? Seems like everyone I ever did was on the second, or third floor.
--------------------------
It's only satisfying if you eat it.
just a set betwix the basement to check for damage and the floor of destruction.
the carry out of debris ... thru the house ... a little bit of a treck ... but we were able to pull the van right to the front walk ... with even no exterior steps!
See ... think happy thots ... and good sh!t happens !
a good portion of my work in the past has been tile setting ... along with setting comes tear out ... I got over my hatred of mud bed tear demo long ago. It was either accept it and conquor it ... or start threads like this one!

I liked your tub story, Jeff. I was recently tasked to remove a tub surround and tub that had been faced from floor to rim with plaster and tile. The homeowner had just bought an 86-year old Craftsman style fixer-upper in Long Beach and he wanted to rip out the tub and put in a modular shower. Once I got the plaster facing off, I discovered the original 1919 claw-foot tub in perfect condition! That changed everything. Now, except for the two-circuit knob & tube wiring, the homeowner realizes he has a gem to be restored instead of remodeled.Incidentally, we also discovered that all of the exposed 6x8 roof beams and the facia are in perfect condition (no cracks, warping or termite damage), owing in large part to the fact that they were all made of clear redwood. BruceT
That is a very cool story. I hope you post before and after pics when you are done.
We are getting set to replace the plumbing in our house, and with it the bathrooms. The house is only 37 so no hidden gems, but the flooring will be easy to remove - carpet (YUCK - WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?). But I don't envy the contractor when it's time to set the new tub - big cast iron monster.
One time I took up some grubby old tile and discovered a beautiful wall-to-wall shag carpet underneath.
I would start to think that your personal experiences were more deserved than an anomoly.
You seem like a real pain in the ####.
I would take my resources to screw you and keep you guessing why I was such a bad guy.
Nice thread to start.
Why is it over the past month that you either start a negative post or turn a positive thread negative?
I come here to learn and give back what I can based on - FINE Homebuilding - not to see some little troublemaker piss and moan about S*** Home building.
I say, let the S*** homebuilders live in their own s***.
I strive to live fine.
