ALL: Got a challenge (At my level, problems not authorized.) Need three exterior exhaust fan hoods. Two for a vertical wall, and one for under a soffit. Want hoods that are waterproof (they all appear to be) and not just an airflow activated flapper. Found one that is motor-driven, but part of an integrated blower system. Must also be as bugproof as possible. Have a problem on our north GA woodland estate w/ all sorts of creepy-crawlers of the eight legged variety. Am searching all the website addresses in the FHB ads, but that is a long, tiresome process.
Have installed an American-Aldes fan in attic to vent bathroom. It has a Fantech type in line fan. 6″ duct penetrates gable end about 25 ft above ground level. Concerned about pure flapper eventually getting stuck in open position or perhaps stuck not quite closed, allowing vermin to enter. Am prepared to add own Al screen to hole if necessary. Would like something activated by solenoid, etc.
Ditto for Jen-Air range downdraft exhaust about 10 ft from ground on vertical wall.
Real challenge appears to be dryer vent, which will be under soffit. Needs to have flap that is horizontal and drops down to open, then raises back into closed position. This one, I know, has to be mechanically activated, and will have to be lint tolerant. When I describe this one to suppliers, they look at me like I have lobsters crawling out of my ears. (Peter Billingsley, pardon my plagiarism.)
Any help out there that isn’t accompanied by derisive, belly holding, rolling on the floor laughter? Actually, I’ll take that, too.
