Experience w/ SIP’s not fitting together
My brother is thinking about building a new house near Seattle. I had told him I thought SIP’s would be a good way to go, but he talked to a builder out there and the builder says they’re no good. Builder says that what they don’t show you in the magazine articles and TV shows is that the SIP’s don’t fit together and it takes a lot of horsing around to get them to fit. Is this true? Seems that something built in a factory on jigs and in ideal conditions would just fall into place with little persuasion. This same builder told my bro that he doesn’t like fiber cement board because you can tell it isn’t really wood.

I just built an SIP house and the panels fit together very well. It was a precut package and we did very little trimming on site, the trimming we had to do was very easy. In fact cutting the panels accurately was so easy that I would probably just buy raw panels next time and do the cutting myself.
Danno,
I never had a problem with them not fitting together when I built my home at first I thought I did but I checked and the foam was tight there was a tiny gap in the OSB which I later found out was to allow for swelling.
Sounds like this contractor needs to go to school.
