We are building a cottage in the mountains of Pennsylvania, and like the exposed floor joists look. How would we insulate between floors if we want the joists exposed?
Also, looking at SIP building panels, or Timberframe. Are there SIPs for between floors?
Thanks for any info/advice you can give us. We’ve built a home in VA, acting as our own contractor, but want a more greener and energy approach to building our cottage.

Why do you need to insulate between floors?
SIP Floors
SIPs can be used as floor and roof decks. You need to discuss the application with the manufacturers technical staff, or a Licensed desgin professional who is familiar with them.
I did a building last year that had exposed 32X6, glulams on 12-ft centers, and tongue and groove 2X6 infill between them. The 2X6 isn't structural in that kind of application, and was entirely cosmetic. We then installed 12-ft wide, 12-inch deep, SIPs over the 2X6 as the structural ceiling, and put a metal roof over that.
The SIPs probably didn't need to be that thick, but we were building an energy efficient building, and wanted that much inuslation.
