I want to expose the underside of fir floorboards and joists in my house and I’m thinking about having them sandblasted to make the surface smooth enough to keep clean yet keep the rustic look.
Do you have experience doing this? What method did you use?

what
are you going to do about the wiring and plumbing ?
We're remodeling the house out back, too. Gonna make 'er deeper.
There are guys around here that use sandblasting to make rustic wooden signs, so it might give you the effect that you want. But I think it would make an unbelievable mess inside a house. I hope the room isn't carpeted!
I've seen a lot of old warehouses and such where ceilings have been removed and exposed framing left open. I'm just trying to figure out how to treat the lumber so it doesn't collect every spider web in the town.
Sandblasting does sound like a mess--that's why I'm looking for other ideas.
