An enclosed porch that at one time was probably open to the outside because of the clapboard siding on the old victorian house walls.
Multiple layers of paint and of course a top layer that was probably a latex over old lead and is now cracking all the way across the grain at quarter to half inch intervals. All of it, trim included.
It’s a prep for resale and removal of all the old paint isn’t the effective remedy so I’m wondering what techniques might be available to lessen the intensity of the cracks?
Is there a sandable paint that can be applied before a top coat?
Thanks

Not a paint, but you could get a tub of ext. Vinyl spackle and squeegee it on with an old credit card type deal. Get it real close and sand that. Then paint over it with thick stuff like SW Duration or Porter Permanizer..both really fill small divots well.
Looks like some old '60s hardboard nailed on the porch exterior walls beneath the windows as the interior covering.
Needs some type of beadboard look maybe?
If the wall is flat enough to staple up some beaded ply, go fer it. That stuff is cheap enough.
The ext spackle and credit card worked out well. Thanks.
Almost whole front of house ended up draining on the front stoop splashing the door. She asked if I did gutters. Told her to contact a gutter guy since they could make a nice seamless across the 15 ft porch area since there was too much other needed I was involved in.
heh She cold calls a guy who rides around with a Handyman sign on his van and he screws the gutter down flush so the top of the gutter isn't level and dosen't pitch the thing,
and uses two leftover pieces he must have had from a job somewhere like a 7Ft and 8ft and the seam ends up over the stoop where the problem lied in the first place
and didn't caulk the end caps so I don't know what might happen with whatever he did on the gutter seam.
I should of just went ahead and done it or told her I'd get a hold of the guy to do it.
Should have heard the meth head roofer story she told about getting her roof done last year.
Freaky stuff's going on out there all the time.

Funny you mention gutter seams, so many times when we hang gutter, it somehow works out that seam will always land over a stoop or door...but soldered copper is good for a LONG time, and even Al. with good Geocel Gutter Goop should be OK for almost as long.
Crimped end caps w/out sealant is just a matter of time till the drops clog u and standing water starts the drip.drip.drip.drip. Then it freezes and blows out or yanks the cap when the ice hangs off it.
