Hi,
I’m renovating an old house which was framed with 2x4s then cladded twice with 3/4 pine (one course horizontal, the other vertical), so my total wall thickness is 5 inches. I had a free source of double hung wooden windows in frame which I have already installed. The challenge is now to extend them another inch on the interior to be flush with the drywall.
Ordinarily I would glue and nail on an extension, but in this case, the depth of the extension is an inch while the width of the frame is 3/4. I think a dowel would be great in theory, but the prospect of drilling all the holes with the windows installed is a bit daunting (I would not be able to use my dowel jig). I could biscuit join them as well.
Just curious what ideas you might have.
Thanks,
Jon

Glue and screw (finish screws) would be tight forever.
Nail (with gun and good aim) and glue would last too.
I'd assemble the extension together as one pc. then mount with either of those methods. Glue for sure if painted. Not so much if maybe if stained.
Like calvin said, trim-head screws and glue. I have never seen them doweled.
Thanks,
I didn't think of screws. That will make this tedious task easier.
