Just curious what extension cord manuf.-/makes you guys prefer…rubber vs plastic…
For work (production), it has to be black and Coleman Seoprene stuff is the defacto line.
For home, I prefer *Yellow Jacket* branded stuff. The compound is different. AFAIK, their cord is not rated for oil/chemicals but it’s extremely flexible. A tad bid more flexible that the Seoprene line IMO the compound characteristics of the 2 cables is different.
It’s like a whole rubber, verus plastics vs elastomer debate.
They all do the same job to a degree….depending on application.
Sitting here making a really long 8/4 portable cord as I type..

all the ones I have bought recently, don't stay plugged or keep other cords plugged in very well

All my home extension cords are pre made ~yellow jacket~ brand.If it's DIY, I'm using Seoprene cable with Hubbell plugs/receptacles.

Big fan of those also, nice to get a good grip on, tough as tough can be, a favorite.
Fried a couple of the single on-line recepticles though when they got wet and sat out for awhile. Usually take a metal concrete wall box and put a double wall type receptacle in that after welding all the knockouts in place.
8/4? What the heck are you running-6 miles or a welder?
Flexible is what I'm after.

Molded ends hold good for a long time.
Used to be (and still have some) PolarCord. One of the original flex in cold.
Now? beats me, the supplier sets me up. Most are yellow, one great 50 is blue with a red stripe. US made-Purchased probably 10 yrs ago. No electrical tape on them yet.
Here's something I've noticed. If there's one cord in a sq. mile of open space. Guarantee some one will step on a it, drive on it , stack material on it, drag something over it.
Could it be some kind of magnetic field?

Polar Cord (not sure if it was under the Royal name) & now under Coleman Cable is all under the Suprene line of cord . Good stuff, and I think all Coleman is domestic made.It's hard to describe the jackets on the various ones I'm spewing out, unless you have touched/worked with them in person. Each compound is different. All very flexible.At the end of the day, the varying differences is jacket compound.
Well mobile, I'm just a dumb carpenter. All I need and want is a long life cord end, a rugged jacket that stays flexible in the cold and allows me to wrap 'em up at the end of the day easily-which for me-a remodeler-25' mostly, some 50's.
It should have a "calvin" memory.......sort of. No need to take on the memory of an overly helpful homowner either.
But I do enjoy, if not able to remember the technical stuff.

There used to be a brand of cord that colored their stuff blue and it remained flexible in the cold. But then everyone started making their cords blue and I can't find the original anymore.
cords here have got so cheap it dosent pay to make them up from scratch
also i get the cords with the little light in the end so i can tell if i have power on site as lots of times a breaker has flipped and the owner has done nothing about it
some of the new thermoplastics seem ok in the cold here as long as you dont wind them too tight when putting them away otherwise you have a thermoplastic spring when you go to use them
