Can someone share with me what the benefit is for custom extension jambs for kolbe windows versus the standard jamb. What is the best construction method for attaching the custom jamb?

Source control, ventilation, and filtration are the keys to healthy indoor air quality. Dehumidification is important too.

Custom Jams-are just that-Custom.
No worries that it's a little too big, or too small or ..................
Now, if you get extension stock from the window company and then form that to fit your situation-probably the best of all worlds...............
if there's a rabbit type joint detail they use to join them liike Andersen.
Not familiar with Kolbe-Previous Andersen extensions you could screw them to the stock frame from the backside and at an angle. That worked well when glued also.
On customs I might put it all together and then fasten to the window jamb (along with glue if it's going to be painted for sure (don't want cracked paint lines later on).
Depending on how deep the extension is dictates to me how I am going to join the two together.
extension jambs
Calvin:
Thanks for the post. I had custom jambs installed and was told by a third party that it would have been better to get the jambs from kolbe. I believe that the custom jambs fit better but am concerned about the potential for cracking at the joint. I read a post about using trim screws as opposed to nails or brads with glue. The windows were installed before all of this came up.
Got ya.
If glue was used and screws-no worries.
If glue and nails-fastened properly-I wouldn't worry either.
Trim screws are alright if you can cover with the casing.
The way the Andersen extensions were shaped on the backside-you could run a screw (toe-screw) right in the where it wasn't seen and worked beautiful.
Haven't had the pleasure of any Andersen extensions in quite a while-wouldn't surpirse me if they did away with it.
I'm always a little suspect of after the fact comments. If what you had done was done properly-I think you have little or no worries.
You'll have to forgive me-I'm having a ball listening to the conservatives getting beaten up. Why don't they call this a sitcom?

Evidently you snap the extension onto those clips? Ever used these?
