Hi, guys, a Knots wanderer with an exterior paint question. We’re thinking about painting some cedar rail-supports black, wondering about the differences in quality of the various brands of paint. Would like to use a latex. Hubby’s leaning toward a Behr produce (He says “Ultra Premium” or something like that).
Weather here is wet a good part of the year, snow occasionally, and a couple weeks or so of truly hot weather in the summer.
TIA!

I just found a consumer research site that seems to collect info from various forums and DIY/contractor forums. Indicates Behr is very lowly regarded by pros, so I got that. Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore get good reveiws. anyone have a specific forumlation they'd like to recommend?
I don't know what a rail support is, but if it's made from cedar and you want it black, I would consider using a black oil-based stain (such as ebony) rather than paint. Black paint doesn't hold up as well as lighter colors because it absorbs heat from the sun.
If it had to be painted, I would use an oil-based primer and a top of the line exterior paint from either SW or BM. They're both good, but I usually use BM simply because they're my regular source.
