Good Day
I bought a wood screen/storm door kit for installation in a new rough opening in my house. The door is 1 3/8″ thick so the standard 1by trim will not do. I could use stardard 2by Kiln dried pine though I’m not sure it will stand up to the elements, and it has a rough look even when painted, as this will be. Also its too thick. Should I be looking at other kinds of lumber for this application, or perhaps mill down the 2by?

Will 1" thick 5/4 work? you could put a spacer under the trim to shove it out a bit also. Put a band around the edge if you need to dress it up.

Build up the trim? Maybe 1X (3/4") under brickmold and that would give you 1 3/4 thickness on the door side.

I've used clear cedar decking lumber, both 2x framing lumber and 5/4 decking for exterior trim where added beef is required. Plane/saw down to desired thickness. Added benefit is that cedar is more resistant to insects/rot than pine.
