I’ve about 3000 bf of exterior wood to coat for a craftsman-style house in the northeast, upstate New York’s Adirondack region, to be precise. It is a mix of trim, exposed-bottom-side roof deck, and soffit. I am leaning toward the use of western red cedar for the trim, and pine for the horizontal stuff. What has been your experience with using solid-color or “semi-solid” oil-based stain for finishing wood in these applications?
