Hello,
I have some fixes that need doing on my front door (see images). Basically a hinge mortise and some wood splits. My question: what is the best/easiest way to fix these? I’d love to use some paintable epoxy like stuff if that could work. If so, any recommendations of a good brand name?

New piece of wood!
Route or cut out the blown out section and install another piece. Use a scratch stock/cabinet scraper and grind the detail into the edge of the scraper.
Sand/prime/pain
probably faster than trying to track down the epoxy filler.
If you just repair the damaged areas, most likely a storm door will be out of the question. It's hard to tell if the breaks in the wood go into the jamb or it's just the casing. If it's just the casing, I'd replace it.
If it goes into the jamb, then you should consider replacing the entire unit.
It's just common brick molding, so you'll be better to just replace it. But if you want to take the short cut (yep, I've done it too), you can build it up with Bondo - same stuff they use for auto body repair. Some here will say you should use Abitron or that other expensive stuff, but then you really would be better off replacing it, as you'll spend about the same.
Layer the bondo letting each layer partially set up. Just at the point when it's slightly hard and rubbery, you can shave the excess off with a chisel. When the area is filled up, let it completely harden and sand it to shape with 60 grit sand paper. Maybe smooth it with 100 grit, if you don't want it to look scratchy. The prime and paint as normal.
A Tip: Before you begin, drive a few nails or screws into the damaged area, leaving them sticking out a little. This will give the bondo something to grab onto.
But I'd still say to just replace it. Brick molding is cheap.
