I am building a 2 story addition, garage lower level with radiant floor heating, and master suite above. The foundation wall consists of 12″ CMU, stepped to 8″ for a brick ledge. The brick have been laid to create a knee wall about 18″ above grade. For the time being (and probably permanently) I’m going to side the wall areas above the brick. I haven’t decided whether to go with fiber cement or vinyl.
Question – should I install rigid insulation over the 7/16 OSB sheathing? If so what type? Would the choice of siding, vinyl or FC, affect the choice of insulation?
Exterior walls are 2×6 and I live in the PIttsburgh, PA area.
Jeff Buck, I believe you’re in this area?
Thank all of you in advance for your suggestions.

In cold country, the foam belongs on the inside of the wall

I can`t give you total advice, however consider TYVEK wrap home wrap by Dupont, for a good energy saving sub insulation...look the up on the net ...If you use http://www.google.com you can enter residential exterior insulation, and find several options you may not have yet considered... good luck..Mark Rogers G.c.#643905
