I’m installing some clear cedar “V” board siding on the underside of an exposed/open exterior porch of a house I’m remodeling. There is some existing 3/4 inch plywood nailed to the ceiling joists so I have a nice flat surface to nail to but what I’m not certain about is would it be advised to add building paper over the plywood before I install the “V” board? And what would be your rationale for adding the paper? Or should I just glue and nail it to the plywood/joists? I don’t want gaps to develop on the end cuts as the wood starts to dry out and shrink though and if I use paper I won’t be able to glue it to anything solid. It’s going to get primed with Benite, then Pratt and Lambert exterior Alkyd primer then two coats of P&L Alkyd finish.
Your comments/thoughts are welcomed.

It's fairly rare that a board will shrink in length. Wet SYP PT is an exception but also rare. Gluing solid wood to plywood can cause problems. The cedar will move in width due to humidity changes. Some boards will split due to the glue. I can't think of any reason to use paper in your situation.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
