I am doing Hardi plank siding, but can anyone suggest an alternative product to use for trim work? We have a couple of curved windows that may prove difficult to trim with Hardie. Could something like Azek be used in combo with the Hardie?

I used Miratec and liked it...not sure about the curved windows though.
Azek works perfectly with Hardie. And it can be bent easily in one plane. Flatwise. For a wide trim or casing , it can be had in sheets and fabbed from that, but it gets pricy in sheets and wide sizes.
Depending on just WHAT round trim you need, other makers like Fypon have premade and custom made available.
As an aside I made circlular and radiused glass stops ( in lieu of glazing putty) by heating Azek triangular strips in a pipe with a heat gun and glueing in place with caulk and 23ga. Stainless Steel pins. Neat stuff to play with.

Azek with Hardie looks great. Just be sure to go with the 1" thick stuff so you can trap all of the siding boards.

I would need to paint it - product literature says you can, but I wonder how it holds up on a south face in a dark colour?
Dark colours are not recomended, it really GROWS when it gets hot and can/could buckle.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Thanks - that would have been my guess.
I love this site - it will save me making so many errors.
Sphere's right. A dark color is a no no. Azek's product lit recommends a 100% acrylic based paint with a light reflective value (LRV) of 55 or higher and they state "If a darker color MUST be used (LRV of 54 or lower), paints designed for such applications such as Sherwin-Williams VinylSafe should be applied".
