extra bracing..take it or leave it?
history: I’m finishing my garage, which is separate from my house. It’s basically a two car garage with a configuration for the cars to be end to end, with a garage door at each end. It’s 2×4 stud framing 16″ oc. with OSD on the outside, covered with tyvek and vinyl siding. It has a small attic area. I’ve added fiberglass with craft paper between all of the studs and drywalled almost all of it, including the ceiling. One portion of the wall, between a side window and the back corner, has a brace screwed (one screw per stud) to the insides of the studs, diagonally, from the top rear corner of the inside to the bottom plate at 45 degree )or so) angle. This 2×4 is preventing me from putting up the drywall because it’s not set into the studs.
Q: Is the bracing left over from framing the wall, keeping it square until the OSD was in place? With the OSD in place on the outside and my intention of adding drywall on the inside, can I just remove that 2×4?
I suspect it’s left over from framing the wall and since the contractor wasn’t going to finish the walls, they just left it in place.
In advance, thanks for your help.

It is left over from the framing, you can remove it
Agreed, If it's nailed to the wall parallel with the O.S.B. then remove it and save it for you driveway form.
It's actually screwed in, one screw per stud, at an ANGLE approx 45 degrees. Does this change your recommendation?
Greg
Yea...parallel, meaning along the inside of the wall...
Greg (trying not to get confused)
If the 2x4 is nailed at the top to the top of the wall and the bottom is nailed the the bottom of the same wall then it is parallel. Then if the OSB is nailed properly to the other side of the wall so that it provides continuous support with at least a 4 to 1 height to width ratio then by all means remove the brace.
It was screwed in so it could be removed later,it's now later, (?) take it out and hang your greyboard.
