I'll take your word for it. With dialup, I let it go 8 minutes and still didn't load, connection speed was normal. Then the damn site wouldn't let go of my computer.
Yup, incredible.
PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
5 second download on wifi at the ABQ airport just now.
Lotsa gingerbread, lotta eye candy at the candy store in Tucson too.

LOL ..you would like that first one. Thanks.
I love old painted ladies. Colorado had them in abundance. Lovely to look at a well-maintained one, if a nightmare in maintenance costs. Fantastic, so long as it's not me living there.PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
I was thinking the same thing.
Can you imagine doing that level of work back in the day with no power tools?
Kinda adds to the wow factor.
They musta had a small army working on it.
Here's the first from a 1902 photo...

that looks soooooooooooooo............................. Adams Family....
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming<!----><!----><!---->
WOW!!! What a Ride!Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
A bit pretencious for my taste.
But ya gotta admire the craftsmanship.
Wish there were some color shots.

Hey with the title of this thread anythings OK
A reall good looking lady sat down next to me at the bar last night. We chatted for a while and the she got down to business. She whispered to me that she would do anything I wanted for 100 dollars.
I thought about it for a minute and then gave her 5 twenties. I then looked her in the eye and said "paint my house".
And now back to your regularly scheduled program
Did she look like this?
This is the direction I thought the thread was going
Tim Tebows GF
allegedly
Only a sick man would waste such an obviously good painter on the outsides of a house.
"This is the direction I thought the thread was going"
That's crazy. i stared at that photo for ten minutes and didn't see any candy.
i'll have to go back and look some more

obviously the shock of the cold water was raising goose bumps

Yea that's her!
I could continue this hijack by telling you that I told her to paint the porch. She came back to the door in a hour and said she was done. I,couldn't believe it so I stepped outside , no fresh paint on the porch, but my Porsch had a lovely latex paint job.
Like I said I could continue this hijack, but I'm not going to.
Shes not a painter or plumber, shes my Neurosurgeon!
Experienced, but still dangerous!

Big Brother strikes again, hey?
Your pic was just like the name of that movie, 'Gone in 60 Seconds'.

I noticed the painters helper was gone
Dang
I better straighten up
Looks like you have a future as a housepainter..
.
A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
That's about the quality of my work.
ROAR!
"What's an Arkansas flush?......It's a small revolver and any five cards."
Don't encourage the boy.

A bit pretentious for my taste.
I'd agree, but I would love to have had a hand in it. Better yet to be called to help in the restoration would be fantastic.
The skills an apprentice would develop during this homes construction would surely leave them a journeyman at completion.
There are many styles of woodworking that I wouldn't have on my own place. But that's not to say I wouldn't like to do that kind of work.
Without a doubt.

All ,
We call it the Carson Mansion , the story has it that the Mr. built a smaller but equally nice house across the street just for his mistress , oh yeah an underground tunnel was used to discretely make visits and such .
A good pal of mine who is local in Eureka Cal , has done some restoration work inside .
dusty
Several of those here in central Ohio as well.
Was researching yesterday through some art deco books for a project up near Detroit. The amount of craft and ornamentation in some of these older styles is amazing. Don't think we'll be seeing that level of detail again.
>Don't think we'll be seeing that level of detail again.I think we will, because that sort of thing is cyclical. Only it'll be computer designed/cut, not hand made.
Yeah, they are cyclical. Modernism, International, Brutalism, etc. all reacted against decoration. Post-Modernism brought some of it back. Then Deconstructionism reacted against that, and so on.
i may be leaving out some isms here
Dunno. Was thinking more in terms of expense than style. Even then, much is currently available through CNC milling, water/laser jet cutting, etc., but it's still treated as a kind of novelty. Throw in computer aided design by the likes of Gehry, Zaha Hadid, Office dA, etc., and you get a lot of detail that's more a variation on a mathematical theme. Still beautiful stuff. But lacking the whimsy or capriciousness of some of the older decorative styles.
Is it just me, or is it, gosh, a little bit plain and severe?
Forrest - had a jigsaw puzzle of it long ago
The phrase I have heard to describe Victorian architecture is "Too much is not enough"
This house epitomizes that. Impressive but gaudy.John Svenson, builder, remodeler, NE Ohio
dpsours, WOW!
now that's impressive!
