Am shopping for a 3D Archtr program for home design and after doing the usual consumer report searches I feel less sure of what to buy than before. I know a lot of you guys out there have a helpful comment on this matter…..needs to give me a roof layout, stud count….electrics and plumbing not necessary. Thanks and stay warm,ya eeh teh…Lightfoot

So am I. I have the older Broderbund version 2.1 vintage 1997 and the 5.0 edition vintage 2003. I can not get the printing features I want in the old and have not taken time to learn the newer one. It does have some pretty good features.
There has got to be something better that is not an arm and leg for casual use.
Sketchup.
If you want the program to do a lot of automatic things, you almost need to pay the bucks for SoftPlan or Chief Architect.

Just bought last year's version of Home Planner Pro for $400. It's published by B H & G and Cheif Arch. I've got mixed feelings. I makes great print outs and is really flexible for placing cabinetry. I haven't fallen in love with it's roof making features. Right now I'm thinking it's better at 2D than 3 D. Maybe I'll think differently after I've been at it a while.
Stuff done like this is very quick and easy with the free Sketchup package from Google.
Models can be hugely more detailed, and include colors, texture, landscape, etc.

And another. I use Sketchup's library of stuff to populate my models with plumbingware, furniture, appliances, and much more. And everything is to scale.
