Does anyone have any recommendations for factory finished siding? I see some have 15 year warranties, some have 25. Thanks

Most of the pre-finished siding I've seen is finger jointed, and I won't use that for siding.
I used some that had a 25 year warranty if applied per their instructions. We went thu all the steps and thru the loops, etc.
Client had selected it based on the warrantee, but when I saw it, my opinion was that it was good that it had such a great paint job ( Cabot's) because the pine was #4 or worse. We culled the worst knots and splits out. The yard didn't even want them returned for credit. He just told me, "Just say how much, Paul. I don't want to have to haul and burn it over here"
after about 3-4 years, customer had a claim and I wasted a couple days trying top pursue that until I realized I was wasting time, then wrote it off an d fixed it myself.

like what?
Hardi siding?
if so ... the factory finish is great.
that said ... based on the other replies ... I have no idea what you're asking.

LOL....
Exactly what Jeff said, is my answer.View Image
If it is Hardie - or similar - where is what I don't get....
You still have to caulk the end of the clapboards where they join the corner boards or whatever - right. Around the windows and doors too... Then you have to paint, which even if it is supposed to match the siding - probably won't match exactly, so do you have to end up painting everything all over? Or, how does it work? Maybe color matched caulk???
color matched caulk ordered with the siding drop.
I don't run caulk between the butt joints in the field, I use metal splines cut from coil stock. I just caulk at the trim.
I like miratec as the corner boards, am finishing up a job with azec "rams crown" for the window trim.
The miratec is preprimed, I put a heavier coat of primer on it all then rolled on 2 coats of trim paint before anything was even cut. Just prime/paint the cut edges after it's cut to size and nail away.

I had never heard that term "Rams Crown", so I looked it up and found this. We call that rake mold. So, what are you doing, picture framing the window with the thin edge of the profile toward the window? Or is there a sill or what? Vinyl windows?
that profile was almost an exact match to the existing 100 yr old moulding.
they had sills, on the front it was all replaced with sills, other 3 sides it was picture framed. Thin side toward the windows. Windows had already been replaced so we trimmed to what was there, a mix of replacement windows.
the thickness of that particular moulding worked out great.

We just did our house with Hardi with the Weiss coatings. I guess for the full answer you'll have to ask me in 25 years, but so far so good. The advantages are pretty obvious:
- paint is applied under optimal and controlled conditions
- It's less expensive than paying a crew to paint it after it's hung
- The whole process of siding goes quickly
The only disadvantage I can think of is the somewhat limited choice of colors.
