I have a failed header above my garage door. An experienced brick mason is
completely removing all of the brick above the door and installing a 23 foot lintel that will
span one side to the other supported by a brick column on each side. He will bolt
the lintel to the existing beam. He says that he has made this repair many times
and claims it is not necessary to replace the beam. I have sold my home and I am moving on.
Does it sound like what he is suggesting will fix my problem?

1) What do you mean by "failed"?
2) What's above the door? Gable end? Roof eave? A second floor?
3) What is the composition of the existing beam?
4) What will be the composition of the new beam?
I guess he was serious about the whole "moving on" thing.
If the garage door header is sagging screwing a lintel to it will not fix the sagging beam only the brick veneer on the outside. The garage header beam needs to be replaced with a stronger beam to prevent it from sagging.
