Hello,
I need a bit of advice about a project coming up in the next month or so and would appreciate any feedback. Normally this would be easier but the property is a condo on the other side of the country, in the southern interior of British Columbia. An estimate of $6,100 Canadian per unit was given – this would include the cost of replacing the patio door. I’m not in this business but in Canadian dollars that price seems higher than I would have expected.
I know most on this board are not Canadians but would appreciate and guidance / rules of thumb regarding pricing – in terms of hours to perform certain tasks, I can use ballpark hourly labour costs to arrive at the total cost. And out of curiosity what would the cost in the US be?
The building is three stories, with 32 units. The existing siding is approximately 8 inch cedar planks. The existing siding will have to be removed and disposed of and the new Hardiboard installed.
A link that shows the building is here:

How would you price this job:
– removal of material – labour time per square yard?
– disposal of material –
– cost of Hardiboard – maybe unknown at this time?
– units of labour to install 1 yard
– additional costs – wastage, trim, scaffolding
– any other costs associated with Hardiboard?

Sounds cheap to me. Just replacing a patio door can run 3-6 grand
