I am working on a faux chinking project for a customer. After putting a couple of samples on the wall we have decided to go with a 1×9 rough sawn pine board and a 1 1/2″ chinking gap. But I am still trying to figure out what the best material would be to use for the chinking. I have read articles that recommend regular joint compound or portland cement mixes. My only concern is that the materials will fall out of this 3/4 x 1 1/2″ gap or crack, etc….. Any one have any thoughts or similar past jobs with good results.
Thanks for the help.

Synthetic log chinking?
Sashco Log Jam Chinking might be just what you're looking for.
You know, there's a reason that the real stuff has "stuff" in it -- it's a fairly good adhesive/binder.
I'm not familiar with the "real stuff". What kind of "stuff" is in it?
Well, there was disagreement among the experts as to whether the best stuff was human, or whether cow stuff worked better.
wow. I got you now. I'll have to ask the homeowner what kind of stuff she prefers in her living room!
