My new family room addition has a traditional gabled roof. 3-4-5 pitch. The interior ceiling is going to be siding in 1X6 ship lap pine and white washed. At the peak, I’d like to “faux” in a beam to (a) improve appearance and (b) give me a flat plane (underside of “beam”) to mount a box or 2 for lightfixture/ceiling fan. The current construction state is open 2X6 construction and currently rough wiring and plumbing.
So… I figure I can box together a beam from the same material as the ceiling; but wanted to know if you all had suggestions on the process to:
(a) Contruct it.
(b) how to hang/attached

Bevel rip a 2x6 or so to snug up to the ciel. Lag it to the rafters/joists.
Make a "C" box to slip over the nailer, toe screw in to the nailer.
NO ceiling fans unless ya build up the scantlings of the whole schmear..don't even trust sheet rock screws if ya have a fan in the picture.
