Favorite Biscuit Joiner ??

BoJangles | Posted in Tools for Home Building on April 12, 2007 10:05am

It’s time to retire the 20 year old clumsy Elu and get a better joiner.  I’d appreciate anyones opinions on which new biscuit joiner they would purchase and why.

(Yes,  I’ve got all the Kreg stuff)

I think biscuits have their place so I’ve got to get another one.

I've been using the Porter Cable lately and it is a nice tool.  I think FHB did a review about a year ago on biscuit joiners and the PC was highly rated.

Honey. Nothing joins biscuits together better. Preferably at the Smith House in Dahlonega, GA

    Peanut butter is also good.

HHHhhmmm...as soon as I get back from the refrigerator, I'm going to look for the FHB article.

MIGHT be a good time to look at the Domino

I prefer biscuits separated with some butter on top.  Why join them at all?

Fresh sausage gravy is my biscuit joiner of choice.

Nah, i'm a purest, just butter for me.

I have the PC and the Dewalt. I like that the PC fence goes both ways, but the Dewalt is a better machine. The mini biscuit PC makes is stupid....can't think of a single application that something else (pocket screws for example) doesn't do better.Cabinetmaker/college woodworking instructor. Yeah, glad I dodge that one--I discovered the Kreg jig just about the same time PC came out with their mini-biscuit.  At the time I was assembling face frames with regular biscuits that left me having to clamp the face frames to dry and cut off the excess biscuit.  The Kreg jig is so much easier.

Ditto the PC. Not the old old one, just the . . . er . . .  old one at this point.

Another vote for the newer PC.  It does way more than any other, with the choice of biscuits (4 instead of three) and a fence that will let you do whatever you need to do.  I biscuit join 2.5" colonial casing using the pc.

    dewalt makes a good "foot-baller"

All reviews I've seen rate the Lamello top honors, and those who actually throw that money out all say it was worth the money.

For the rest of us poor slobs, the PC 557 seems to rank highest in a more reasonable price range...That's why I bought it.

    1. BoJangles | Apr 13, 2007 03:22am | #12

I am in the poor slobs category.  I did find the FHB review and the PC looks like a nice machine.

  7. Scott | Apr 13, 2007 03:46am | #13

I too have the PC and love it. I don't do enough work to justify the Lamello's.

I also like the little face frame blade with the PC, and though I've only used it a few times, it was nice to have. Great for repairing wooden kids toys.

    Another vote for the PC.

  9. woodguy99 | Apr 13, 2007 04:29am | #15

    Dewalt.

I have but dont necessarily recommend the Dewalt. Its okay for its price but you have to be VERY CAREFUL lining the tool up or you will get bad slot alignment.

I've started using my Kreg Jig much more but I do agree there are times when the biscuit is the way to go.
