Seeing Mike G’s remark about James Hardie’s newly published and updated installation instructions, it made me wonder about a detail I had planned.
A stone veneer wainscot comes from the stone ledge up to window sill height, and has a sloped cut stone cap, and 6″ lap siding continues up from there.
I had planned on a single-bend piece of lead flashing up behind the FC clap’s starter strip, running out over the stone for about an inch. The first course of clap will have its butt edge sitting on the lead.
If Hardie wants the bottom course well off the ground and roof, how do they advise in this situation? And how does this differ from the course atop a window or door head?
