FHB #168 & Andy Engel’s basement floor technique
I’m about to do my walk-out basement floor Engel-style. I understand the use of foam, the taping, the double layer of ply BUT I don’t see anything to indicate how many concrete screws I might need. Does anyone have a suggestion for spacing them? Every 12″ around the perimeter of the ply sheet? Every 6″ (please, not that – 2000 holes to drill and screws to sink? I’d go mad) ? Every 2′ around the edge and a couple in the middle?
Thanks in advance for suggestions –

Rez Bump
Rez Bump? Isn't that a Lithuanian death-thrash metal-blues band that performs naked underwater?
No, it's the cross-dressing Japanese polka band that plays reggae.
D'oh! Of course, what was I thinking?
But do they have any lyrics that might tell me how many concrete screws I need?
Nobody knows how many screws to use for this flooring technique?
ok, here's another monkey wrench throw in the equation.
It would be possible to float that plywood, so say several knowledgable folks who have done just that. Think about the two layers of plywood, alternating direction. I would us a 3/4 ply first, topped by a 1/2"-more purchase for the screws. Glue and screw together on top of your foam bd.
There you go-no tapcons whatsoever.
I would use PL premium. Messy but so far has stuck to everything I've used it on. Big or small tube. And no, it doesn't NOT ooze out when you set it down. Have a low cardboard box avaliable as a landing pad for the gun.
I've only done one " screw a whole floor of ply (above grade) " job, never floated 2 layers of ply. I glued and shot the floor down. Too long go to remember the nailing schedule. Used yellow pine 3/4 t&g sheeting. Not too damn flat, but lucky it wasn't too damn waffle-ly. This was as a base for nail down-site finished HW. Worked well and stayed put.
Hmm, that might work I guess. Not sure it would save any money - have you seen the price of PL premium? eek! - but possibly simpler.
If we can make beer that develops a head on top why can't we make a concrete that develops a foam layer on top? Huh?
I would use spray foam glue for the whole shooting match and no screws down into the crete.
Rez was a long time beneficial service-minded member here who would often resurrect questions in need of an answer with a gentle bump so they would come again to the top of the list so as to be noticed.
He passed on a year ago and the latest Fest was held in his honour, Rezfest.
But also, because of his great helpful bumps, we remember him with bumping threads and calling them rezbumps.
Now that is a fine memorial to have. Never knew the guy but I like him already.
Anybody who didn't like rez - wasn't fit for the compost pile.
The FOAM doesn't lay flat... huh?
The foam glue should expand some to attach.
R U using an actual foam gun or just disposable cans? You comments don't fit my experience. Yes, you need to hold things in place for ten minutes, but that is no trouble, and guns don't clog when in regular use.
Not just an actual foam gun but an expensive Hilti foam gun. And no, the foam sheets don't always lie flat any more than ply always sits flat. Both are prone to being … warped.
