I would like to use fiber cement siding on my home but it’s a polyurethane panel house with the framing members spread out to about four foot or better. OSB inside and out. How can fasten this to the OSB???
I was thinking about using ring shank nails or screws. (galvanized)
Any better ideas?
Thanks

Dave, check out the James Hardie website for more information on Hardi-Plank fiber cement siding. IIRC, nailing Hardi-plank directly to OSB with r/s nails is an acceptable installation. However, be advised that all F/C siding will telegraph any waves that you have in the framing or sheathing of your walls.
You also might want to run a search in the Breaktime Archives (here) as fiber cement siding in general is a very popular topic. I'm sure you'll gain a wealth of knowledge by spending a few moments browsing past discussions on the topic.
great stuff.far better than wood
I agree. I resided our old house with it and loved it. We sold it and built the one I'm in now and used it again here.... this time I complemented it by doing all of our exterior trim in Azek. I'm hoping to not see the likes of a paint brush for a very long time! :)
Any time I'm framing a house and they've yet to decide on a siding type I always try to educate and steer people towards Hardie. I've yet to hear someone who went with the FC tell me they were disappointed. I think it's a great product.View Image
Diesel,
It is also the perfect accompanyment for masonry. I used it on gable ends, dormers and one side that wasn' t bricked-up.

Diesel-
I have read many of the threads on Hardi and wasn't convinced. (My favorite is beveled cedar.)
In light of your feelings, which I had not seen before, I may reconsider and try it out. I respect your opinion a lot. OTOH, I didn't like that line about how it telegraphs waves in the walls.
Missed you in Memphis.

Hardi and Azak. Can't beat it for a new house. No worry of rot and it looks great.
