Attached is a .pcx of my house/garage. It is a 1941 Garrison Colonial with brick/stone on the first level and wood claps on the garage and all other levels and slate roof on both. I have succeeded in applying fiber cement siding to the entire garage and it looks great ! Although it appears as though the garage is “attached” to the house (in a sense it is), the house was first completely sided in wood claps and the garage was then built butting the house as shown.
When I sided the garage I pulled off all the peeling paint claps and existing 15lb roofing paper (it was as brittle as china) and replaced with 30lb paper. I now need to turn my attention to the main house structure. Front and back are relatively easy – it’s the sides and, in particular the garage side that has me worried. I plan on removing the slate on the garage roof next to the house, hiring a slate roofer/copper craftsman to build/install a cricket for the chimney/garage roof intersection and eventually have him reinstall the slate.
Question is – what problems, if any, am I likely to encounter in removing the existing claps from the garage side of the house where the garage butts to the house.
Much Thanks

*eric.. thanks for the .jpgas far as the claps.. unless i'm missing something..the claps are INSIDE the garage , right ?if so.. they can just stay there forever...on the outside.. make a neat cut with a flush saw or a sawzall right to the sheathing.. and then paper & side over that..if i'm not understanding your problem.. please let me know
*Mike - yes the claps are inside the garage also. Somehow I was thinking I had to remove the claps inside the garage because I'm fitting 1/4" foam board to get back closer to the original 3/4" wood but I understand the process you describe - thanks.
