I have to figure out an estimate of how much gravel to order for a short driveway I’m going to be helping to put in. I can’t come up with a formula for the ratio of tons of gravel per cubic yard or cubic foot.
Anybody got one?
I need roughly 8 cubic yards, or 210 cubic feet. Just can’t come up with a number to convert it to tons.
You’re hard to put a finger on.
So if you don’t mind, I’ll use my whole hand.

Figure 1.8 tons per cuyd or 2.0 to be safe for spoilage
Spoilage ???
Does gravel spoil?
I assume you mean extra for waste, over-runs, and spots where you need "just a little more right here".
Thanks fer the info...........A waist is a terrible thing to mind.
Does gravel spoil?
where do you think they get rotted granite?bobl Volo Non Voleo Joe's BT Forum cheat sheet
Boss. what makes you think the folks at the quarry don't know how many tons in a yard?

What quarry ??? There ain't any around here - We're flatlanders surrounded by corn fields.
Actually - This driveway is something that's going to be put in front of a building owned by the local Lion's club. I was trying to put together a budget for how much I think it would cost to do.
Every time I want to do something, I have to take it up with the board of directors, and their first question is "How much will it cost"?
Then they want to know what kind of materials I need so they can see if they can get it donated. And I was certain that someone here would know. (Which they obviously did)
One question though - If I treat the gravel with bleach, will it prevent spoilage?Q. Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?A. Because Janet Reno is her real father.
No Boss, you need to do like your grandparents did.
They burried the gravel in the ground. It will last forever that way.
