A friend of mine bought (at his local Lowe’s) a tankless water heater, and called the guy recommended by the store to get it installed. He told my friend he had never done one before, but was willing to try. Meanwhile, the friend calls several other places, large and small, and they all tell him things like “nobody uses those around here” (but he saw 3 of them disappear overnight from Lowe’s) or “I’m not even sure those are legal around here” or “You have to buy it from us, and then we install it” or just “We don’t do that”. I would probably taken my chances on the guy who was willing to try, assuming he had experience with regular water heaters, but my friend is willing to wait, and continue with cold showers, because he figures those other units probably were sold around here, so must be installing them. I thought of checking with the building inspector’s office, but it doesn’t require a permit or an inspection around here (Madison, Wisconsin), so that seems low yield…Any ideas on how he can find an experienced person to do the job?
