I am trying to install a pot rack in the ceiling of my kitchen, and am wondering if anyone has any suggestions about how to find a stud with a minimum amount of drilling/probing. The house is turn-of-the-century, the ceiling is plaster, over which are installed acoustical tiles (permanently attached). The tiles are floated and beveled at the edges, which makes an electronic stud finder of little use, and the beams are too deep below the tile for a magnetic one. My experience so far suggests that the studs are not placed at regular intervals.
Thanks for any suggestions
